
Eric Decker from the Poughkeepsie Journal reported that Red Hook baseball star Dylan MacDonald secured the Boys Athlete of the Week title for April 27-May 3, capturing 54% of the total votes. Now, the nomination period for the May 4-10 edition is open.
The weekly nominations are compiled from information and stats provided by coaches throughout the week. Coaches are encouraged to submit game details and player statistics to [email protected] before the end of the week to be considered.
The winner will be determined by an online poll, which closes each Sunday at 8:30 p.m. The result will be announced the following morning.
Here are the standout athletes nominated for the May 4-10 poll:
Ryan Shapiro, John Jay Track & Field: Shapiro won the javelin throw (168-2) at the Glenn D. Loucks Games in White Plains.
Carson Palmer, Highland Lacrosse: Palmer netted 13 goals over the week, including seven in the Huskies’ 19-3 victory over Newburgh.
Theo Sacks, Haldane Lacrosse: Sacks recorded 16 saves in a 12-3 win against Dobbs Ferry.
Nick Drewnowski, New Paltz Baseball: Drewnowski went 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored in a 21-1 rout over Rondout.
Noah Santana, John Jay Baseball: Santana tallied five hits, four RBIs, and one run during the week.
Liam Correa, Marlboro Baseball: Correa pitched six innings, allowing only three hits and also chipping in two hits of his own to help secure an 11-4 victory over Red Hook.
Ben Cappillino, Highland Baseball: Cappillino collected six hits, four RBIs, and seven runs scored in the week’s action.
Shane Finnigan, Roy C. Ketcham Baseball: Finnigan threw a one-hit complete game, striking out eight batters without issuing a walk in a 6-0 shutout of Fox Lane.
