French coach Christophe Galtier, who manages Saudi Pro League side Neom, did not hold back in his criticism of some of his younger players following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Al-Shabab. He stressed that a lack of aggression and commitment almost cost the team valuable points in the second half.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Galtier acknowledged that despite securing the win, the team’s performance was uneven. He pointed out that certain substitutions failed to bring the necessary intensity, allowing the opposition to mount pressure and threaten the result.
The French tactician expressed his frustration with a few young squad members, stating that their reactions on the pitch were neither positive nor reflective of the required fighting spirit. He made it clear that anyone who fails to contribute or lacks seriousness “has no place in the team.”
Galtier also highlighted a difference in mentality between young players in Saudi Arabia and Europe, referencing what he described as a “softening” attitude that undermines discipline and competitive readiness.
Despite the harsh words, the Neom manager praised certain individuals, noting that players like Salman Al-Faraj delivered a solid performance after coming on. He added that the team still needs to improve their focus in upcoming matches.
