According to recent reports from *La Gazzetta dello Sport*, AC Milan’s management could face a major overhaul if the club fails to secure a top-four finish in Serie A this season.
Last summer, the Rossoneri splashed out on two players costing over €30 million each: Yacine Adli arrived from Club Brugge for €36 million, and Christopher Nkunku was signed from Chelsea for €37 million. However, both have underperformed this campaign. Adli has made only 15 appearances for Milan, while Nkunku has managed seven goals and three assists in 33 outings. Additionally, winter signing Santiago Giménez, who joined for €30 million in the 2024/25 season, has yet to register a goal or assist.
The poor returns are not solely down to individual quality or injuries. Constant changes in the club’s hierarchy – from CEOs like Galliani, Fassone, Gazidis, and Furlani, to sporting directors such as Mirabelli, Massara, Maldini, and Tare – have created instability in management philosophy and coaching staff.
Since the 2017/18 season, Milan have made the following high-profile signings worth over €30 million:
1. Leonardo Bonucci – €42 million, left after just one season with an average performance.
2. André Silva – €38 million, struggled to adapt and was highly inefficient.
3. Mattia Caldara – €37.74 million, plagued by injuries, barely played.
4. Krzysztof Piątek – €35 million, started brightly with 13 goals in 36 games but saw a dramatic decline.
5. Lucas Paquetá – €38.4 million, managed just one goal and three assists in 44 matches, failing to meet expectations.
6. Charles De Ketelaere – €37.5 million, scored zero goals and provided one assist in 40 appearances.
7. Santiago Giménez – €30.2 million, enduring a long goal drought with no goals or assists this season.
8. Christopher Nkunku – €37 million, struggling with tactical fit and a lengthy league goal drought (seven goals and three assists overall).
9. Yacine Adli – €36 million, failed to make a significant impact.
Only three signings are considered relatively successful: Rafael Leão (total fee €49.5 million), Fikayo Tomori (€35.3 million), and Franck Kessié (€32 million).
