Notre Dame has secured a major commitment for its future offensive line, as five-star 2027 prospect Oluwasemilore Olubobola chose the Fighting Irish over Miami and Texas A&M on May 12. The decision was not merely about fame—it was rooted in trust, culture, and long-term development.

Ranked as the No. 3 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 1 overall player in New Jersey by the 247Sports Composite, Olubobola had a fierce recruitment battle. Miami, Texas A&M, and LSU were finalists, with Penn State and Nebraska also in the mix. The St. Peter’s Prep standout finished his junior season with an 8-3 record and was selected to the 2026 Under Armour All-America Game.
Olubobola cited Notre Dame’s strong culture and coaching staff as key factors. “Coach Freeman is a great coach. I believe in him a lot. Coach Rudolph is a great offensive line coach, and I just believe they can make me the best athlete I could be,” he said during his commitment ceremony. He also praised the program’s ability to develop players for the NFL, a factor that outweighed the flashy pitches and warm-weather promises from Miami and Texas A&M.
Under head coach Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame’s recruiting momentum continues to build. The program has already landed four-star offensive tackle James Halter (son of Irish alum Jordan Halter) and edge rusher Abraham Sesay in the 2027 class. Additionally, five-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho, the nation’s No. 2 DL prospect, is set to announce his decision on May 15 after visiting Notre Dame twice in April, with Miami again emerging as a strong contender.
