São Paulo President Justifies Keeping Roger Machado in Leaked Audio

An audio recording leaked on Monday (11), following São Paulo’s defeat to Corinthians at the Neo Química Arena in a Brazilian Championship match, revealed club president Harry Massis venting about the current situation and reaffirming his decision to continue with head coach Roger Machado.

“We don’t have money, don’t you understand that? I’m not going to change anyone. I won’t pay any more fines,” Massis said in the recording.

The president acknowledged that he is still paying off debts from previous administrations and cited the severance costs from firing previous coaches such as Luís Zubeldia and Hernán Crespo.

Regarding Dorival Júnior, the former coach who led São Paulo to the Copa do Brasil title in 2023 and remains a fan favorite often discussed within the club’s leadership, Massis admitted he had spoken with Corinthians president Osmar Stábile about Dorival’s salary and staff. However, due to the high costs, a potential return is currently unfeasible.

“He [Dorival] and his staff cost between 2.8 million and 3 million reais per month. That’s madness,” Massis pointed out.
