Edin Terzic arrives at San Mamés backed by a stat that validates Athletic Club’s bet on his profile. The German coach, chosen as the new rojiblanco boss after Ernesto Valverde’s departure, ranks among the best historical points-per-game averages in the Bundesliga among managers who have taken charge of at least 50 matches.
According to Opta statistics, Terzic averages 1.97 points per game, a figure that places him close to some of the most influential names in recent German league history. Ahead of him are Pep Guardiola (2.52), Vincent Kompany (2.50), Hansi Flick (2.45), Xabi Alonso (2.17), and Ottmar Hitzfeld (1.98). The new Athletic coach sits just behind Hitzfeld, a true legend of German football.
This data helps put Terzic’s arrival in Bilbao into context. Athletic officially announced the agreement with the German tactician for the next two seasons, running until June 30, 2028, after Valverde confirmed he would not continue leading the team next campaign.
