In the second game of the CBA playoff quarterfinals, Guangdong Dongyang Guanghui narrowly defeated Beijing Beihai 102-99 in overtime on Saturday night in Dongguan. Zhang Haojia’s three-pointer sealed the victory, leveling the best-of-three series at 1-1.
After losing the first game on the road, Guangdong came out strong but faced a resilient Beijing side from the start. Beijing’s Raymond hit a three-pointer early, and Zhou Qi and Speelman added successive baskets for an 8-2 lead. Guangdong responded with a run, led by McColl’s jumper and threes from Qi In and Du Runwang, to take the lead. However, Beijing’s William scored inside and out, and Zeng Fanbo hit a three to tie the game at 29-29 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Beijing found their rhythm. Speelman drained a three, Zhou Qi dunked, and Jem scored on a jumper, pushing the lead to 11 points. Guangdong struggled offensively, scoring only 14 points in the quarter, and trailed 52-43 at halftime.
After the break, Guangdong mounted a comeback. Qi In hit two straight three-pointers, and Hu Mingxuan drove for a layup, sparking a 13-2 run to regain the lead. But Beijing answered with balanced scoring to reclaim a 3-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The final period was a tense battle, ending 91-91 and forcing overtime.
In the extra session, Beijing’s McGee scored consecutive baskets, but Guangdong’s Qi In responded with a three. With the clock winding down, Zhang Haojia stepped up and hit the game-winning three-pointer, securing the victory and evening the series.
