Penalties are a significant advantage in football, especially in an era where VAR can catch what referees miss. Here’s a look at which Serie A teams have received and converted the most spot kicks this season and over the past five years.
In the 2025/26 season, the 35th matchday had no penalties awarded, similar to rounds 1 and 15. This reflects a reduction in penalty kicks, with only 99 in 350 matches—an average of 0.28 per game, lower than previous seasons. This has impacted club fortunes, as some teams are true specialists from 11 meters.

Seven teams have converted every penalty they received this season: Fiorentina, Udinese, Atalanta, Verona, Cremonese, Cagliari, and Parma. However, the top six sides competing for European places fared differently. Champions Inter led the way, scoring 5 of the 6 penalties they earned, with Hakan Çalhanoğlu missing only in the first derby—his second miss in two years after the crucial error against Napoli in the previous season.
**Teams with the Most Penalties Awarded in the Last Five Serie A Seasons**
Looking at the last five seasons, the two most recent Scudetto winners also took the most penalties. Inter currently lead, though they haven’t taken one in over two months. Napoli closed the gap thanks to Scott McTominay’s conversion against Cremonese at home, tying with Roma, who have seamlessly replaced Paulo Dybala with new hero Donyell Malen (100% conversion rate, including Europa League).
Unsurprisingly, Roma are the best among top Serie A sides at converting penalties, with an 84.09% success rate. They are followed by Atalanta (82.76%, tied with Bologna) and Inter (82.22%). Napoli and Empoli lag far behind at 72.73% and 94.12%, respectively. Milan and Juventus fare much worse. The two historic Italian clubs have not only received fewer penalties than their main rivals but have also failed to capitalize. Milan have missed 11 penalties (same as Napoli), just one less than Fiorentina, who have frustrated their fans the most from the spot.
